The theme for the event is Celebrating Africa’s Legacy.
Gauteng Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation spokesperson Nomazwe Ntlokwana said thousands of children will parade their colourful and extravagant costumes throughout the vibrant streets of Yeoville.
“The carnival is aimed at encouraging and strengthening the love of arts within schools, since children design the costumes themselves. It is also aimed at instilling the values of democracy and social cohesion expressed through the arts,” she said.
The carnival is one of various build-up activities being held as part of the Road to Gauteng Carnival, to be held in December.
