New interactive playground enriches community

JOBURG - The City of Johannesburg unveiled the Sophiatown Extreme Park on 19 July.

Facilities at the park includes an outdoor gym, fenced play areas, park furniture, braai areas, drinking fountains, recycling bins, paved walkways and landscaped lawns.

The project was initiated by Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo.

Delegates from the Metropolis conference planted tree, layed lawn and painted some of the park furniture, while kids from the area cheered as they enjoyed the amusement facilities.

MMC for Community Development Chris Vondo urged the community to guard the park against vandalism.

“This is your park, preserve it and be jealous about it,” he said.
