An evening of French on Bastille Day

MELROSE ARCH - Bastille Day took place at The Venue in Melrose Arch on 14 July.

French citizens who live or work in the Sandton area and South Africans wanting to be French for an evening, were out celebrating on the day.

The prestigious event was sponsored by the France Tourism Development Agency in South Africa. This year the theme was all about France and its four regions. The small island just off Mauritius, Reunion Island took the limelight with all its imagery displayed on the walls illustrating its exotic beaches and extreme adventures.

All guests were greeted at the door by the French consul in South Africa, Raymond Quereilhac and given a beaded cornflower accessory known as the ‘bleuet’, which commemorates and symbolises the memory of Bastille Day as the beginning of the French Revolution.

The French feast was cleverly laid out to represent each region in France.
