Children enjoy fun day with police

BRAMLEY - Volunteers from the Bramley police reservists and the Alexandra Youth Desk joined uniformed officers and sponsors in giving orphaned children from Alexandra a day of fun.

Fairways Primary School hosted the occasion, a belated tribute to former President Nelson Mandela. More than 50 children were kept busy with soccer and netball games and a jumping castle. Food and drinks were provided as well as entertainment in the form of dance shows and poetry, performed by the children themselves. The children were also given a lesson on safety and their legal rights.

A police dog unit from Pretoria came to give the children a special show, demonstrating the dogs’ abilities to find hidden substances, and even jumping through hoops of fire.

Clothes and toys were also handed out, collected by donors and the children of Fairways Primary School.
