Team Scout spirit

BRYANSTON - The 1st Bryanston Scout Troop built a swinging derrick together as a team.

A swinging derrick is a crane that is made out of ropes and pulleys. It is one of the many structures that scouts build. They also build towers, catapults, and treehouses.

“This active display of scouting shows that younger generations can go outside and accomplish something together,” said Thomas Tumiel, the 1st Bryanston Troop leader. “Whether it’s hiking, camping or simply building a structure, Scouts do it.”

The swinging derrick was built for the pioneer badge and the explorer badge. The explorer badge is the second highest badge that a scout can obtain and it is a precursor to the top award which is the springbok badge.
