Bid to beautify Bryanston

BRYANSTON - The streets of Bryanston are about to become a lot more appealing thanks to one resident's initiative.

Donna Sipman started the Making Bryanston Beautiful project to encourage residents to take pride in their own suburbs.

Sipman asks for donations of any surplus plants and resources, which she will then use to restore and beautify public spaces in the Bryanston area.

“My team and I will be starting a new project as part of our Making Bryanston Beautiful community work,” said Sipman.

The team will now tackle Berkeley Island on the corner of Berkeley Road and Bryanston Drive. This island has been an eye-sore and a concern to residents for a long time.

“We are working with the help of the community to beautify this island. We hope that in a couple of month’s we would have made a dramatic difference in improving this space,” said Sipman.

She is appealing for a sponsor to install a curb and pavement along the Bryanston Drive end.

“We would also be very grateful for any monetary donations as we would like to enclose the area with gum poles to prohibit ‘tree fellers’ from parking on the island during the day. We also appeal to the public for plant donations, specifically, hardy plants like agapanthus, wild garlic, hen-and-chickens and indigenous trees.”
