Potholes get deeper on Ballyclare Drive

BRYANSTON - The pothole situation on Ballyclare Drive is extremely dire.

This according to resident Barbara Helm who is concerned that Ballyclare Drive will soon collapse into a sinkhole as what happened on Coleraine Drive. She said, “The potholes are rapidly becoming craters and another road collapse is evidently going to happen soon.”

Helm said the potholes on Ballyclare Drive were exacerbated because the road was popular for commuters. “Water is constantly streaming down Ballyclare Drive from St Audley Road and this has been going on for at least two months.

“Some potholes have just been filled in with loose gravel, but this does not help at all as all the gravel comes out, and the bricks put in some of the holes do not help at all. Nothing seems to be happening regarding the numerous treacherous potholes on this major road.”

The Johannesburg Roads Agency announced at a press conference that the repair work on Ballyclare Drive in Bryanston was set to commence mid-May this year. The agency said the estimated construction period of the bridge would be two months, and that the scope entailed the replacement of missing steel handrails, concrete barriers as well as repairs to existing steel handrails.
