She said problem areas are primary schools, petrol stations and shopping centres. She has urged the public to keep valuables out of sight, and check if their cars are locked when parked.
She said two suspicious vehicles were identified in the past week. “There was a white Honda seen during an incident at a petrol station in Sunninghill, and a white Toyota Hilux seen during an incident at a shopping centre on Rivonia Road,” said Cloete. She has asked the public to stay alert and report suspicious activity immediately to 10111.
“Smash and grabs are also occurring again, mainly along the intersections of Witkoppen Raod,” added Cloete. She said these crimes occur in peak hour traffic in the afternoon and continue until 8pm at night.
“Keep valuables out of sight, remain alert to your surroundings and keep a distance between vehicles so that you can manoeuvre your vehicle should it be needed,” she added.
There have also been reports of red light robberies along William Nicol Drive.
She said, “Victims have had firearms pointed at them while stationary at a red robot and robbed of their belongings.”
