Whatsapp group fights crime
SANDTON - The Sandton Community Policing Forum for Sector 2 has started a crime-fighting Whatsapp group.
In the group, members are informed about crime incidents in the area and security safety tips are shared within the group. “Senior police officers, including our Sector 2 commander, are members of the central group, using this real-time information,” said Donna Sipman of the forum.
“The police respond promptly [due to Whatsapp alerts], giving us a significant advantage in deterring crime. An unexpected and added benefit is that neighbours are starting to get to know each other again.”
Sipman said the group is growing every month. “People are recognising its significance in communication and fighting crime in the area,” she added.
