EFF member arrested for fraud

JOBURG - An Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) member was arrested in Joburg for fraud, the party said.

The party said Wiekus Kotze, who was arrested on 9 April, would receive its full support when he appeared in court later that day.

Kotze, who was labelled a traitor by some in the Afrikaans community after joining the EFF, was expected to appear in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court.

The party believed that the arrest was politically motivated.

“We view this as nothing but the abuse of state machinery and power by certain individuals to settle political scores,” the party’s Gauteng spokesperson Patrick Sindane said in a statement.

Neither the police nor the Hawks could confirm Kotze’s arrest, according to Sapa.
