I agree with Edna Mamonyane in Recyclers: help or hindrance, week ending 28 March, that the public should be patient towards the recyclers and make their job a lot easier.
They provide a great recycling service to the city which could be executed efficiently if homeowners would separate their recyclables and place a separate bag next to their municipal bins. They would be off the roads, which they have the same right to use as motorists. I have never considered them to be a danger to me as a motorist. Motorists should appreciate the very hard physical work they do and wait patiently for oncoming traffic to pass before they overtake.
While their physical appearance may look shoddy, I can assure you that the recyclers I have chatted to are good upstanding citizens and therefore I assume that they all are. I sincerely hope that the Metro police do not confiscate their carts, but rather issue a fine to motorists such as Errol Levin who do not give right of way to the carts. I thank Mamonyane for showing her support of the recyclers.
