Customers go postal
SANDTON - It appears that Sandton City Post Office customers did not have enough time to make alternative plans to retrieve their mail after the sudden closing of the Sandton branch.
According to customer Gisela Collins, she does not understand why the post office did not inform the public that the Sandton branch would not receive any mail in their post boxes for three to four weeks.
“How about finishing the construction of the temporary post office before shutting down the existing one?” she asked.
“The customer is obviously the last person the Post Office thinks about when implementing such ridiculously inefficient changes.”
Rick Wilson was shocked to read about the immediate closure of the Sandton Post Office.
“I have a post box at the Sandton City Post Office and I am astonished that we were not given any formal notification of this closure,” said Wilson.
He thinks it is not good enough to tell people another temporary facility would be opened in a parking area in three to four weeks’ time.
“What do we do about urgent post? How does the public deal with urgent correspondence such as e-toll notifications, legal documents and other letters requiring rapid reply?” asked Wilson.
He wanted at least a two months written notification about the changes.
Yvonne Kahn is unsure why the Post Office did not give notice that there would be a temporary closure of the facility. Kahn would have preferred notices in the boxes so that customers could make alternative arrangements for important mail.

My comment ? I’ve been phoning on a regular basis to have the street delivery sorted out . I live in the Gallo Manor area . I could not believe what I’ve seen today when walking my dog . The letters are put on the pavement , close to the street on the ground . Now I understand why I am missing some mail . If coming home late the letters have vanished . I did not have my cell phone to take a picture ,next time I may .There were 4 houses where I found the letters on the street . Can they not put the letters in the boxes people have ? Is there someone that can take it further ?
