Woman told £43million she found is worthless
A woman was amazed to find 100 million lire (£43million) in a safe only to discover it is now worthless.
A woman who found 100million lire (£43million) hidden in a safe has been told it’s worthless. Claudia Moretti, from Pesaro, north-eastern Italy, was clearing out a house left to her by her late uncle when she found the fortune hidden inside a safe.
However, she has now been told by the Banca D’Italia that the money is worthless as the currency went out of use over 10 years ago when Italy adopted the Euro on the 1st of January 2002. Ms Morretti – who hired lawyers to try and overturn the decision – had her
appeal rejected as the bank had already set a time limit on the exchange of all lire banknotes and coins to December 6 2011.
