Man assaulted with copper cable

MARLBORO - A man was assaulted with a copper cable outside his home in Marlboro.

Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela, spokesperson of the Bramley police said the man was in his home when he smelt something burning outside. “He went outside to check what was burning,” said Maphakela.

Apparently the suspect was wearing a black jersey, cream-white pants and was bald. “The suspect was burning copper cables outside of the man’s house,” said Maphakela. “The man took a hosepipe and poured water over the fire.”

Maphakela said the suspect took one of the copper cables and beat the man with it. “A doctor had to treat the man after he was injured from the beating.”

He said the suspect was known to the man. The man had apparently chased away the suspect previously after he found him outside his home.

Maphakela said the police were searching for the culprit. “We are appealing to anyone with information to come forward,” he said.
