Corporates compete to win

ILLOVO - A capacity crowd of 13 000 runners took to the damp streets of Illovo for the JP Morgan Corporate Challenge.

The challenge is a premier corporate fitness event and it kicked off at the Wanderers Club in the evening.

After 11 years on the road running calendar, the challenge has gained momentum and popularity. It is one of the biggest road running attractions of its kind in South Africa.

It promotes teamwork and fitness in the workplace, and annually supports a worthy cause. A donation on behalf of all participants was made to the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation for this year’s challenge.

The 10 largest companies in terms of entrants were: Standard Bank (750 entrants); KPMG (550); Investec (500); Nedbank Limited (500); Liberty (475); Rand Water (425); Deloitte (400); PwC (300); South African Breweries (285); and Ernst & Young (251).

First across the finish line was Samuel Segoaba in a time of 00:16:50 representing Transnet Engineering. He said, “I like to run this race because it gives me a challenge. It is a flat run so it makes me faster and stronger.”

The first woman to cross the finish line was Annah Moeketsi in 00:21:28 also representing Transnet Engineering. She said, “It is a great race and is a way for me to get more sponsors on my side.”

The awards ceremony was followed by music performances from MiCasa and sounds from DJ Vin Deyzel.
