Rotary brings family health awareness

SANDTON - The Sandton branch of the Rotary Club of South Africa will be expanding services for three days at its Oasis Itsoseng Community Clinic.

Rotary Family Health Awareness days will take place on 2, 3 and 4 April, and the local branches of the organisation will each host campaigns to mark the occasion.

The Sandton Rotary built the clinic to bring primary health care to Itsoseng. The clinic, consisting of converted shipping containers, was officially opened fully furnished and equipped in February 2010. A non-government organisation, Oasis Wellness was appointed to operate the clinic.

It offers primary health care, ante natal treatment, family planning, HIV testing and counselling, TB treatment and early childhood immunisations.

According to Annemarie van Wieringen, president of Sandton Rotary, the organisation will expand their services at the clinic for the Rotary Family Health Awareness days.

“People often wait a long time for service at the clinic. We will have more volunteers on duty to ensure that we see to as many patients as possible,” said Van Wieringen.

Individuals who would like to offer their services during the Rotary Family Health Awareness days are encouraged to do so.
