Why you’re the boss of the president
BRYANSTON – Jim Powell talks about how politicians are the employees of voters.
Jim Powell, founder of Direct Democracy South Africa, believes that when a person votes they decide who is employed in government.
“When you pay tax, you pay the salaries of politicians. This describes you as the employer of the politician. With your vote, you are also the shareholder of your local council, province and South Africa.”
But, South African politics made a shift along the way when politics started to benefit politicians, not the citizens they were supposed to serve.
Powell said the will to change this situation is lacking in South Africa, but that the 2014 elections could be a turning point.
He will explore this change through a presentation on 29 January at the Free Market Foundation in Bryanston.
