Children celebrate Christmas

CHRISTMAS came early at the Sandton Police Station. Father Christmas was in town and he handed out toys and gifts to the children of the police officers.

Sandton Community Policing Forum organised the Christmas party for the children to thank them for sharing their parents with the Sandton community. “For most of the year the children don’t get to see their parents as often as they should because they are out working and serving this community,” said Yogi Govender, the administration assistant of the forum. “This is the community’s way of saying thank you to the children and giving them this time to enjoy with their parents.” The Christmas party is an annual event that the forum organises for the Sandton police every year. “It is amazing what the community can do,” she said. “Everything today was sponsored by the community.” A magician was invited to entertain the children with games and tricks. The children also enjoyed face painting, hot dogs and a jumping castle sponsored by the area’s security company. Captain Kym Cloete, spokesperson for the Sandton police thanked the families of the police officers and wished them well over the December holidays.
