Sacred Heart lights up Joburg Zoo

JOBURG - Sacred Heart College pupils stole the show as they mesmerised the hundreds who attended the Tree of Light Christmas carols at the Johannesburg Zoo.

The school year has come to an end and Sacred Heart College pupils celebrated the start of the festive season at the Johannesburg Zoo, participating in the merriment of the Tree of

Light, which was hosted by HospiceWits and the Star Seaside Fund. The Seaside Fund takes children from disadvantaged backgrounds on a nine-day seaside holiday.

Families attended with picnic blankets, baskets and candles, awaiting an evening of choirs, carols and thousands of sparkling globes. The Sacred Heart College marimbas opened the evening.

Later, the Sacred Heart College Primary School Choir, led by Grade 11 pianist Francis Ovenden, sang with the Welsh Male Choir. After the singing, the Christmas tree was lit in memory of loved ones battling cancer. Each globe carried a message of love, hope and good wishes.

It was an unforgettable event that raised a substantial amount of money for individuals diagnosed with terminal illness, to be cared for by HospiceWits, as well as the children who benefit from the Seaside Fund.
