All the king’s judges

JOBURG- President Jacob Zuma has appointed new judges to the High Court, Labour Court and the Electoral Court, the presidency announced.

Spokesperson Mac Maharaj said Segopotje Sheila Mphahlele and Advocate Maria Mabel Jansen SC were appointed as judges of the South Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg.

Other appointments included Advocate Albertus Johannes Bam SC and Advocate Nicoline Janse Van Nieuwenhuizen SC, who were appointed as judges of the North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria.

Sungaree Pather was appointed as a member of the Electoral Court for a period of four years, while Justice Pule Lazarus Tlaletsi’s appointment was that of Deputy Judge President of the Labour Court.

Additionally, new judges were appointed in the Free State High Court in Bloemfontein and the Western Cape High Court in Cape Town.

With the exception of Somaganthie Naidoo whose appointment as judge of the Free State High Court will commence on 1 January 2014, all of the appointments are with effect from 2 December.
