Dark cloud hangs over the development of the Riverside Park

THE Bryanston East Community Forum has been accused of making residents liable for R4 459 318, 45 in costs for the Riverside Park development.

One of the complainants, Heather Oosthuizen said, “Concerned residents obtained a Service Level Agreement and discovered that it is in fact the Bryanston East Community Forum that is liable for the costs.”

The Service Level Agreement stated that the community forum should be responsible for the development of the park at its own cost and not at any cost to City Parks.

Oosthuizen, Herman Steyn and Maylene Turner are concerned that the Bryanston community is unaware that they are liable for the cost of the park’s development, when they had been informed that the developers, Alan Grant Holdings would fit the bill.

Ian Tumiel, Bryanston East Community Forum chairperson said, “What is in the agreement is quite correct. It just means that if we do not have the funds, we cannot proceed. We have to find the funds ourselves as a forum and we have, this is where Alan Grant Holdings gets in.”

Bohlale Mohlathe of City Parks said, “This community is not at all liable for any development costs. If it was not for Alan Grant Holdings, the development of the park would not have even happened. This is a brilliant example of the community working together with a community business to develop a better place for all.”

Neil Jackson of Alan Grant Holdings said, “They must produce a document in black and white, stating that there has been an actual violation that has been committed during this development.”
