100 happy years for Sandton resident
Phillip Richter, a resident of Pembury Lodge turned 100 years old on 3 November, and celebrated the special occasion with those he loves most.
Richter was born in Marquard, Free State on 3 November 1913. He became a respected member of the grain trade and was honoured in 2002 as the oldest practising grain broker. At 85 he was still going to his office at Jackpot Foods in Glenhazel. He was happily married to his wife Una for 56 years. He has two children Merwyn and Cynthia who celebrated his birthday with him along with many family members, grandchildren and great grand children.
He played tennis until he was 85 and when asked the secret to a long life he will tell you to eat the right foods and keep active. To this day he joins the exercise classes three times a week at Pembury. His children will tell you that they never heard him argue with anyone or raise his voice, and said he was definitely an inspiration to all.
Richter’s birthday consisted of a fabulous morning tea with Pick n Pay Benmore donating a birthday cake and Dischem Benmore donating gifts for Richter and the other residents.
