Travelling down Route 66 to help the animals

MIDRAND - On Sunday 25 August the Society for Animals in Distress held a fundraiser at the Rivonia Barnyard in support of their various programs and expansion of their facility in Midrand.

Supporters of the Society for Animals in Distress were asked to purchase tickets for the matinee performance of Route 66, a show that features country, western and acoustic rock while taking a musical journey along the historic American road, Route 66.

The Society for Animals in Distress is a non-profit organisation, based in Midrand which provides veterinary care to low or no income households in seven townships in the North and North-East of Johannesburg.

It provides 100 000 treatments per annum and educates 14 000 children a year from the townships it services.

Tammy Harding, the donations and promotions co-ordinator for the Society for Animals in Distress said, “We are so happy with the turn out. 250 tickets were purchased, this will go a long way in helping us with our overheads.”

The performance delighted the audience with well known songs, glitzy costumes and exciting dance routines.

It was also the final performance of Route 66 and the cast went out with a bang.

Executive general manager of the Society for Animals in Distress, Heather Miller said, “The show was awesome! What a talented South Africa we have. The Society for Animals in Distress is just on the brink of building a new hospital at our premises in Midrand. Functions like these make sure we can continue our operations.”
