Sandton Police Station opens Street Store to help those less fortunate
SANDTON – The Sandton Police Station opened up a Street Store to allow displaced people within the community to pick out some essential clothing items.
The Sandton Police Station opened its very own Street Store to provide winter clothing for displaced people within the community.
The Street Store concept is a nationwide project which aims to reach out to those who cannot afford to buy clothing. The setup of the store allows people to experience a proper shopping experience as well, with items of clothing and shoes neatly displayed for people to pick out.
Captain Granville Meyer, the spokesperson for the Sandton Police Station said the store was a great way to reach out to displaced people within the community and provide them with essential items. He hopes to expand the store to include food items as well.
Meyer added that through the Street Store, the impact they have on their community would extend beyond 67 minutes from individuals.

The project also forms a part of the police’s Gauteng Policing Priorities 2019/2020 in tackling poverty.
Members of the police station handed out invitations to visit the store to people within the community to encourage as many people as possible to enjoy it and get some necessary winter items.
The Street Store will be held once a month in the Sandton policing precinct. Those who have clothing items that they no longer use are encouraged to drop the items off at the Sandton Police Station so that they can be used in the upcoming ‘sale’.

One of the Street Store’s patrons, Goodman Mthembu said it was a wonderful experience being able to pick out some essential items. Mthembu added that he didn’t have any shoes before and was excited by the chance to pick out a pair.
“I think it will be so great to have it once a month, we would really appreciate that. In the position that we are in we really appreciate anything.
“A street shop is so nice, especially when you are not buying but showing appreciation and gratitude, we are really happy.”

The Sandton Community Policing Forum also took the opportunity to collect clothing items at the Gallo Manor Police Station which will be donated to those who are in desperate need of clothing.
