Art comes to life at the RMB Turbine Art Fair
ILLOVO – The seventh edition of the RMB Art Fair was a success.

Art lovers, creatives and artists from all walks of life gathered at 10 Fricker Road in Illovo for the seventh edition of the Rand Merchant Bank (RMB) Turbine Art Fair (Taf) on 12 July.
Even at a new location, the fair lacked nothing short of exciting installations, sculptures, photographs and paintings that left the attendees in awe. Taf’s objective is to develop young artists and grow the market for African art as well as elevate art collecting across a wider market.

Twenty-five-year-old Buhle Nkalashe had an opportunity to showcase his paintings at Taf this year.
“I got my big break a year ago when I had my first solo exhibition,” he said. “That was where I got recognition and then made the entry to showcase at Taf.”
He concluded by extending his gratitude to all his supporters and the fair.

Another artist who was happy to showcase at the fair was Nkosinathi Thomas Ngulube. “I have been getting a good response from the people who have seen my work today,” he said. “I love what I do and I love seeing people appreciate good art.”

Attendees enjoyed a great ambience and socialised with other collectors while they had a bite of artisanal food and beverages from the restaurant. “It is a really good space to be in, everyone here is welcoming and it’s always nice to be surrounded by art,” said Phumeza Sakmam.

Toni Solomon and her mother, Kay Solomon said they encourage everyone to attend the fair next year. Toni said, “Even if you are clueless about art, you will definitely leave knowing a thing or two and you’ll love it.” Kay added, “I am enjoying every moment here, I am so glad I am part of it.”
