Local business owners celebrated
SANDTON – Local entrepreneurs were celebrated by Santam after being nominated by customers.

Establishmets from around Gauteng were recognised for their achievements during Santam’s Business Breakfast in Sandton.
Among the winners were restaurants, a bridal boutique, and a fresh produce store to name a few. Community members were asked to nominate a business based on key criteria including commitment to delivering exceptional service, standout quality products, and going above and beyond for their customers.
With many of the region’s top entrepreneurs in attendance, the breakfasts focused on building longevity of small and medium enterprises (SME) by shining a spotlight on opportunities that create an enabling environment to assist SMEs to thrive.
Gerald van Wyk, the head of business development at Santam, said,”We have a deep passion for empowering small and medium businesses in South Africa and have established a number of dedicated platforms and initiatives over the years. It is important for entrepreneurs to know that they don’t need to go at it alone.
“They should use these opportunities to build networks of like-minded people, seek out mentorship and surround their businesses with the right people and this extends to insurance. SMEs need an arsenal of specialists in their corner so that they can focus their attention on business development and delivering for their customers.”
He added that Santam has a critical role to play in helping entrepreneurs manage the insurance-related risks that will help keep their doors open and their fans coming back for more.
Renowned author and entrepreneur, Mike Saunders, was the keynote speaker at both events and shared his insights on building a successful human-centric business.
The winning businesses won the hearts of their customers, ultimately turning them from customers into fans and Saunders said that trust is key to building brand love. “Brand love is entrenched in trust. To create the perception of brand love, you need to understand that trust is the currency that you’re playing with. Everything you do as a brand or business needs to build trust in the mind of your customer or client.”
