Mommy and baby yoga helps to form a bound that can lead to a healthy lifestyle for both

Sandton – Mommy and baby yoga allows a soul-to-soul connection time with mommy.

Mommy and baby yoga can give you better rest, increased flexibility and a happy baby, according to the co-owners of the Yoga Lounge on 2 May.

Leanne Glanville co-owner of the Yoga Lounge, Sandton said, “We use various poses and positions to promote the baby’s general health and well-being. The postures and positions used help to provide flexibility, beneficial stretching, improve muscle tone and coordination.”

Mommy and baby yoga focuses not only the fitness of the mother but the feeling of security between the mother and her baby. The Yoga Lounge adds elements of yoga together with holding and rocking the baby.

One of the members of the yoga class Natasha Barnes said, “I really looked forward to and cherished my special soul time with my little Rohan, connecting and getting to know one another on a deeper level. And now he is three years old and we still do yoga together. He even goes to a little toddler class at The Sandton Yoga Lounge all by himself. I am so proud!”

Glanville said that all the postures involve talking softly and smiling at your little one as well as gentle cooing sounds to soothe your baby the connection is key.

“First-time moms are worried about taking their little ones out because of feeding concerns, noise or diaper changes at the class. But all of that is encouraged, the class is objective to create a welcoming environment and a mutually bonding experience for new parents and their babies.”

Rosalind Hinchcliffe co-owner of the Yoga Lounge added, “Before you judge the practice, give it a try! Yoga has absolutely no religious connotations. It is simply an ancient system that was derived to assist us to balance body, mind and heart through a series of physical postures, breathing techniques and mindful contemplation also known as meditation.”
