Spur Montrose Night Challenge kicks off

SANDTON – The Spur Montrose Night Challenge kicked off recently.

 

The Spur Montrose Night Challenge kicked off on 27 January at Montrose Primary School, with 16 schools competing in both cricket and netball.

The challenge has been hosted by the school for the past 14 years.

Over the next seven weeks, parents, children and friends can enjoy abundant festivities, food and drinks, and an array of entertainment.

The opening day kicked off at 1.30pm with Heron Bridge facing Crawford Sandton cricket boys. Heron Bridge took the win with 216 runs for the loss of five wickets in 20 overs.

The second match saw Dainfern take the win against Grayston with 137 runs for the loss of nine wickets in 20 overs.

Montrose won the third match against Kyalami with 236 for the loss of four wickets; and the final match saw the GCB Lions beat Redhill Primary with 186 runs for the loss of five wickets in 20 overs.

The U11 Beaulieu netball girls are currently in the lead with a total of 12 points; with Bryanston second with nine points; and Bryneven third with eight points.

Redhill Open Netball girls led with a total of 15 points; while Bryneven is in second place with 11 points; and Crawford Sandton is third with nine points.

Dr Elsje Jordaan, former SA Protea netball player, and Niels Momberg, manager of Schools Cricket for CSA and tournament director expressed pride and gratitude to all the children competing in the games.

“You won’t remember the scores, who won or who lost. You’ll remember the friends you made and the bonds you formed – and that is what makes it so special,” Jordaan said.

Sylvia Buschberger, headmistress of Montrose Primary School, thanked all the sponsors and parents for making the tournament possible every year. “This is an event that is very exciting for us and I thank Jono Leaf-Wright, the man who makes this tournament what it is, for his love, passion and drive,” she said.
