JOHANNESBURG - Seven people lose their lives in deadly accident on New Year's day.

Seven people were killed on New Year’s Day at around 7.10 am when the taxi they were travelling with collided with a private vehicle and in the process caught fire. Spokesperson for City of Joburg Emergency Servives, Robert Mulaudzi said all deceased passengers were burnt beyond recognition, adding that nine other passengers survived the incident, sustained minor to moderate injuries. “They received advanced medical care on scene and later transported to Sebokeng Hospital and Chris Hani baragwanath hospital respectively for further medical care,” Mulaudzi said.

He continued “We are on our knees urging taxi, bus drivers and all motorists who driving on our roads during this time of the year to drive safely, obey rules of the road, keep to prescribed speed limit so that we can avoid devastating motor vehicle accidents like this one.”
