Joburg mayor to be elected today

JOBURG – New Mayor, Speaker and Chief Whip to be elected today.

All eyes are on the City of Johannesburg this morning as the inaugural council sitting is about to take place.

The metro that was hotly contested during the elections could soon have a new mayor. Councillor elects will be sworn in this morning and the mayor, council speaker and chief whip will also be elected and sworn into office.

The contest is between the ANC’s Parks Tau and DA’s Herman Mashaba. The Mayor will be voted for by council members through a secret ballot.
