Tuesday hack: Household tricks with salt

From cleaning your iron to cleaning your drain - here are some things you can do with salt.

Alternate ways to use salt around the home

  • If something has melted on your iron, turn it on to high and let it warm up. Sprinkle a generous amount of salt onto some wax paper. Move the iron back and forth on the salt for about a minute to remove the substance.
  • If you’ve caused a grease fire in a pan, pour salt onto the flames. The salt will smother the flames.
  • To clean a drain, mix equal amounts (1/4 cup) of salt and bicarbonate of soda and pour down the drain. Pour a 1/2 cup of white vinegar down the drain. The reaction will cause the solution to foam up. Boil a pot of water and pour the water down the drain as well.
