Connell Cruise is in love
HYDE PARK – Connell Cruise talks about his music and his new love.
It’s official – South Africa’s own international performing songbird is in love and his upcoming album will tell us all about it.
Connell Cruise, a Joburg-born resident of New York City, is back in the country to record his new album and he told City Buzz all about it.
The album, which is yet to be named, is in the process of being recorded and refined to 12 tracks. Cruise has recorded three tracks so far, but what was more interesting to learn than the process of making the album is the content.
“In this one, I want to be a little bit more exposed and I want to be a little more vulnerable. I think the songs themselves are a little bit more vulnerable and exposed,” he commented when discussing the raw sound that fans can expect to hear on the new album.
When asked if the content would be just as vulnerable, he responded, “Yeah, but not in a sad way, because I think I’ve been accused of only writing sad songs – and they wouldn’t be wrong – but the truth is that for the first time in a long time, I’m in love. I think a lot of the songs reflect the state of being literally, contentedly in love and not completely and utterly heartbroken.”
The musician gave a shout out to his fans, who he explained know his sound the best and help him stay true to who he is as a musician, no matter how much he changes his mind about music or his sound.
“I find that the fans who have been with me from the beginning have a really good gauge of what’s really me.”
Revelling in the response he’s received from soundbites he’s released to his fans, Cruise is excited to release the album to his eagerly-awaiting ‘Cruisers’ and to let them in on his journey in music and love.
“All of my music and all of me has always been and will always be proudly South African. It reminds me of what’s most important for me and that’s that this is home,” he concluded.
