Sandton Seals swim to victory
SANDTON - The Sandton Seals came away from the galas with no less than 12 medals
The Sandton Seals Swimming club (SSS) recently participated in the final galas of the 2015/2016 swimming season.
The Seals scooped up an amazing 12 medals at the SA Level 3 National Age Group Champs (Port Elizabeth), SA Level 2 Regional Age Group Champs (Ellis Park) and the SA Level 1 Regional Age Group Champs (Germiston), an amazing feat for a comparatively small club.
Commenting on these achievements, Kyle MacMillan, a SSS coach said, “The regional and national galas are the last opportunities for our swimmers to compete, and their performances are directly correlated to their efforts throughout the swimming season.”
“Each team exceeded our expectations in the best way possible with our total of 12 medals. SSS is a relatively small club but our hard work paid off and we were absolutely delighted with the performance of all our swimmers.”
MacMillan added that even though all of their participants arrived on the first day of regionals with some butterflies in their tummies, he was pleased to see how quickly they pulled themselves together. By day two, everyone was in the right zone and more relaxed, and the results speak for themselves.
Five club swimmers came away from these galas with no less than 12 medals:
Gina Miller (13) won bronze medals for the 400m free and the 200m free (Level 3)
Gareth Bockel (14) won bronze for 100m free and silver for 50m free (Level 2)
Adrian Caldwell (12) made a clean sweep of his age group freestyle events bringing home gold medals for 200m free, 100m free and 50m free (Level 2)
Monique Gerber (17) won the silver for 50m back and bronze for 100m back (Level 2)
