Cole Stevens survived something of a back-nine meltdown to win the Glacier Junior Series tournament at Country Club Johannesburg in Woodmead.
Stevens, a member of the SA Golf Development Board squad, shot a one-under-par 71 to pip a handful of players on 72 and lift the A Division title.
The victory earned him a spot in the Glacier Junior Series National Final at San Lameer in October.
After a fine outward loop, where he carded three birdies and no bogeys, Stevens stuttered coming home but managed to hold on for the win despite only managing three pars in the final stretch. Shaun Jones from Ruimsig clinched the runners-up spot, winning on a count-out (when scores are tied after 18 holes, the best score over the final nine holes is taken into account.)
On a day dominated by Gauteng-based players, the B Division was won by Randpark’s Rian du Bruyn with a score of 77.
