Following a robbery in Bryanston which ended in a shootout between four suspects and police on 13 April, the provincial police said the suspects will be charged with house robbery, possession of an illegal firearm and attempted murder.
Provincial Commissioner of Gauteng, Lieutenant General Kay Makhubela said the incident began at 11.30am in the morning when four suspects were involved in a house robbery on Hunt Road in Bryanston. When the domestic worker discovered they were in the house, the suspects fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of jewellery.
The police were immediately alerted and a chase ensued. A shootout began between the police and the suspects, who abandoned their car and fled on foot.
One suspect was shot in the upper body and arrested while the other three suspects were arrested as they made their way to Bryan Park Shopping Centre.
Makhubela said that one firearm and the stolen jewellery were recovered. He said, “The four suspects will be charged with house robbery, attempted murder and the possession of an illegal firearm.”
The injured suspect was transported to the nearest hospital by ER24 for treatment. Spokesperson for ER24, Russell Meiring said, “On our assessment, we discovered that the patient had sustained a gunshot wound to his shoulder, requiring immediate assistance.”
