Discovery pledges R1m towards Sadag
JOBURG - The South African Depression and Anxiety Group (Sadag) has received R1 million from Discovery Health to keep its suicide helpline running.
This followed news that Sadag would have to close down their helpline due to insufficient funds.
Dr Jonathan Broomberg, CEO of Discovery Health, said he considered Sadag an important stakeholder in the healthcare system.
“In committing these funds we want to show our support for their vital work and we want to enable them to continue to save the lives and improve the health of thousands of South Africans,” added Broomberg.
This news also comes after the Democratic Alliance Gauteng Shadow Health MEC, Jack Bloom initiated a challenge to get people to donate and contribute funds to assist Sadag.
Donations can be made through Sadag’s website.
