School helps to raise funds to build charity house

BUCCLEUCH – The staff and pupils of Buccleuch Primary School recently partnered with Ronald McDonald House Charities, a non-profit organisation of McDonald’s.

The organisation creates, finds and supports programmes that directly improve the health and well-being of children. Soon the charity aims to launch the first-ever Ronald McDonald House in South Africa and the school has partnered with the organisation to help raise funds in order to build it.

The McDonald’s mascot, Ronald McDonald, visited the pupils at the school to talk to them about the initiative and how they could help. He explained that McDonald’s South Africa has embarked on a fundraising drive to build the charity house by selling Ronald McDonald red and white stripped socks. The mascot also played some fun games with the pupils and entertained them with clown tricks.

Pupils can help sell the socks that are on sale for R20 per adult and R15 per child. Sales from the socks will contribute to the building and opening of the Ronald McDonald House within the next 10 months.

“We started this charity two years ago, and since then, we have seen that the need to help the families of sick children far outweighs that of our international counterparts,” said Ronald McDonald House Charities South Africa chairperson, Reggie Skhosana.

“We are extremely excited about this project. The Ronald McDonald House will ease the pressure of families by providing accommodation, care, comfort and compassion to parents during taxing times.”
