Five things you need to know about the M1 bridge collapse

SANDTON – A temporary metal bridge has collapsed on the M1 highway near the Grayston Drive offramp in Sandton.

These are the five things to know about the incident

  • A pedestrian bridge next to the Grayston Drive bridge collapsed at 4pm on 14 October.

  • Four cars were trapped under the wreckage of the bridge.
  • Three people have died.

  • Murray & Roberts, leading engineering and construction services company is responsible for the construction of the bridge.

  • It is believed that a gust of wind pushed the scaffolding over, however, the structural investigation is not yet complete and authorities do not want to speculate.
