Hotel guest bust for assault and pointing a firearm

SANDHURST – A man was arrested by Bramley police for pointing a firearm and assaulting a security guard in a hotel in Sandhurst recently.

Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela, spokesperson for Bramley police, said the man refused to check out of the hotel after he had not paid his bill.

“A security guard was called to assist and to escort the man off the premises,” explained Maphakela.

He said the man requested to pick up his luggage from his room before leaving and was then accompanied by the security guard to his room. “The man then locked himself inside the room and refused to come out,” added Maphakela.

“The security guard opened the hotel room with an emergency access card, but when he opened the door, the man pointed a 9mm pistol at him, threatened to shoot him and slapped the security guard across the face.”

Maphakela said other security guards came to assist and managed to disarm the man and called the police.

The suspect was detained at Bramley Police Station and is expected to appear in court soon. Investigations are underway.
