Jean de Villiers’ World Cup jinx continued when he was out ruled out of the ongoing Rugby World Cup in England after suffering a broken jaw during the Springboks’ comprehensive victory over Samoa.

De Villiers came into the showpiece at the back of a career threatening injury after suffering a knee injury in 2014 against Wales and no one gave him a chance to make it into the world cup.

The Springbok captain told reporters after the injury that he will be bringing the curtain down to his glittering career of 109 tests over the past 13 years.

“When I got injured and left the field. I knew I had played my last test for South Africa,” he said.

The sporting fraternity led by Sports Minister Fikile Mbalula praised the de Villiers and labeled him as one of the best ever players to don the green and gold shirt.
