Bramley CPF bid fairwell to their station commander

BRAMLEY - The Bramley Community Policing Forum, members of the South African Police Service and the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police, along with other representatives of the community, bid the station commander of Bramley Police Station, Colonel Gerhard Kemp, an emotional farewell at the Hilton Hotel in Sandton.

Moving speeches were made by fellow policemen and CPF members throughout the evening, wishing him well as he starts his new journey into retirement.

Bramley Community Policing Forum chairperson, Harvey Phalatse, addressed the crowd and expressed what a great loss it was to the Bramley policing precinct. Phalatse said, “Thank you for your service, you made sacrifices and led by example. We must still focus on crime prevention and creating a safer Bramley Policing Precinct.”

Acting head of the Visible Policing Unit of the Alexandra Police Cluster, Colonel Johannes Tau said, “What a great father and what a great leader you have been, and Bramley will be bleeding without you. You are the best I have ever served under. I have watched you and you have worked until your last day. You have served with your heart. Rest and relax and enjoy retirement. Thanks.”

Johannesburg Metropolitan Police deputy director, Enock Sibiya said, “Thank you so much colonel, we salute you… Have a good rest and we salute the woman behind you too… Thank you for looking after him and cooking dinner for him each and every night, and have a good rest together.”

Chairperson of sector 2, Bill Mcintosh said, “Colonel Kemp leads by example, I regard him as a leader and an ideal station commander.”

In reply, a visibly moved Kemp said, “Thank you so very, very much. I really appreciate what every one of you have said. It makes me feel proud and extremely humble that I could serve the Bramley community for all these years. Thank you to the Bramley Community Police Forum for your loyalty and your commitment to the policemen and policewoman of Bramley Police Station.”

According to Kemp, he is looking forward to spending more time with his family and urged the community to keep on working hand-in-hand in combating crime.

Phalatse also thanked Ward 74 councillor, Jack Cooper, for attending and said it was very important that the councillors get involved with the CPF.
