Kicking-off a clean-up
SANDTON - As the suburbs of Johannesburg north prepare for a successful Spruit Day, members of the campaign hosted a very special breakfast with private and public partners who expressed their support on 30 July.
The breakfast was held at Good Food Studio in Sandton and was led by an introductory presentation by Spruit Day organiser, Ian Tumiel, who said the event which will be held on 19 September, will provide the ideal opportunity for concerned residents who live along the Braamfontein Spruit to get involved in a combined clean-up effort.
The initiative, which started last year, is expected to be a momentous community gathering with 14 residents’ associations getting involved with partners such as the City of Johannesburg, Pikitup and ADT Security.
Tumiel added, “We really are hoping to encourage even greater participation this year. It is not only picking up litter but also about making a small difference. That could be helping to clear alien vegetation, plant trees or any other activities.”
He added that the initiative is still looking for more funders who could contribute towards disposable rubbers gloves and other clean-up tools.
Spokesperson for City Parks and Zoo, Landiwe Mashige, said the City of Johannesburg deeply appreciated efforts by the residents’ associations and private partners, and looks forward to the tremendous difference the day will make.
