The 16-year-old Everett impressed at the Yebo Gogga Science Expo held at the University of the Witwatersrand as she launched the Green Wall of Africa: Wildlife SA project. The project is run by Wildlife SA and involves dedicated pupils from schools and tertiary centres worldwide in raising awareness about the preservation of wildlife and the environment.
Everett also launched the bi-monthly Wildlife SA newsletter of which she is the editor.
The youngster who is also an ambassador for Wildlife SA said, “I started this newsletter because I wanted to find a way that Wildlife SA could educate more teenagers and children around South Africa and the rest of the world.”
She believed that the youth of South Africa should educate themselves about the country’s environment and wildlife. “I think that if the youth of South Africa do not know enough about our wildlife, we will not be able to stop wildlife crime. After all, our generation is the one who will have to explain the deaths of hundreds of species to our grandchildren if we do not do something to save these animals.”
Everett has also written two books, Eclipse Child and Escaping Extinction, which are both available on Kindle and are inspired by her passion for conservation.
