Five burgers to try on International Hamburger Day

JOHANNESBURG – To celebrate International Hamburger Day, we’ve compiled a drool-worthy list of burgers that you simply have to try.

Now, be aware these burgers are in no particular order … they’re all equally juicy and succulent.

Of course Wolfpack would be on the list. And here’s why … at the Sandton restaurant they serve a divine Chimichurri Burger … a 200g cola basted beef patty, fresh coriander, fresh tomato and a yummy Chimichurri sauce with your choice of a side salad or fries. Find it at 6 Gwen Lane, 4 Central, corner of Gwen Lane and Fredman Drive. Details: 011 783 8562.

For the health nuts, there’s a burgers that’s as healthy as a burger can get over at Craft in Parkhurst. Chuckleberry’s Hamburger Heaven is a tried and tested favourite. Besides their original chuckle burgers, they also serve the Teriyaki Burger. Choose between a 150g, 300g or 450g char-grilled beef patty topped with sweet teriyaki sauce, grilled pineapple, Swiss cheese, lettuce, tomatoes and mayo. Chuckleberry’s is currently ‘re-establishing it’s national footprint’ but you can give them a call. Details: 011 803 5024.

Last but certainly not least are the burgers from Balken Burger … specifically the Original Balken Burger. This is served in a soft ‘somun’ bun that’s heated up as the patty is cooked. Then the geniuses fold the patty over and add a heart portion of veggies such as tomato, onion, cabbage and green salad into the folded over meat patty. Cue the heavy breathing. Find them at 20 Gleneagles Road. Details: 083 451 6000.

While you may be celebrating the day with a big, juicy burger it’s also World Hunger Day on 28 May.
