Unkempt Bryanston park frustrates residents
BRYANSTON - Undeveloped public open spaces and parks are usually maintained once every three months, this according to Johannesburg City Parks, who were responding to complaints from residents over the unkempt state of Plantation Park.
The park is located on Plantation Road and according to Ward 104 councillor, Michael Wood, it can go months without being maintained by the entity.
Wood further explained that the residents are frustrated by the unkempt state of the park and want the entity to cut the grass more often.
“All the residents want is for the park to be maintained regularly as they would like to use it recreationally for various activities – which used to happen in the past,” Wood said.
He added that residents also want to see it neat and tidy because, in its current state, the park attracted dumping and could potentially attract vagrants.
Jenny Moodley, spokesperson for City Parks, clarified that as an undeveloped public open space, the park was maintained according to a specific schedule.
“According to classification, ie flagship, developed and undeveloped parks and public open spaces are cut according to the set maintenance cycles,” she said.
Moodley confirmed that the park was indeed maintained on 20 April and would receive further maintenance in another three months.
