VIDEO: Watch a video of the solar eclipse
JOBURG – Avid astronomers' interest may have been peaked by the online frenzy of the solar eclipse taking place today, but sadly for those in the Southern Hemisphere it was not visible.
UK resident Michael Jarl Oakes filmed a video of the eclipse.
“At first, the camera wouldn’t pick up [the eclipse], so I had to improvise and film a reflection of the sun in one of my windows, using sunglasses as a filter,” he said.
“It worked out pretty well for a quick job.”

South African sky gazers can look forward to 13 September when the next solar eclipse will be clearly visible in our country, weather permitting.
