VIDEO: Crowd beats up alleged car thief in Sandton
SANDTON - An eyewitness submitted a video showing a man being beaten up by community members in Sandton after he allegedly attempted to steal a car.

Sandton police spokesperson Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela confirmed that three suspects stripped a car in Sandton and attempted to steal it. He said the community saw them and, while two suspects escaped, the community caught one suspect.
He said the suspect was a 39-year-old man. Maphakela said police were called to the scene and arrested the suspect on a charge of attempted theft of a motor vehicle. An ambulance was also called to treat the suspect’s injuries.
12 March, 2.38pm:
The man was subjected to a beating by various people, with one passer-by getting visibly upset and throwing a brick at the man.
The eyewitness explained that the suspect and two other men allegedly attempted to steal two cars on 12 March at 1.15pm from an office complex in Sandton.
“Two of these guys allegedly made off with the one vehicle, but as this guy was trying to steal the second car, a Run X, he was caught and beaten,” the eyewitness said.
The police are yet to confirm the incident.
