Redhill School pupils give back to Soweto

SANDTON - As part of the Redhill Grade 7 Leadership Programme, the Redhill School pupils spent a day with pupils from Lulama Primary School in Soweto.

Redhill School was honoured to have Catherine Constantinides from Lead SA who spoke to the pupils about responsible leadership. Miss Earth, Stephanie Alexander, addressed the pupils about being leaders who will look after the environment.

The Redhill School pupils were split into three groups. They provided and planted 30 indigenous trees around Lulama Primary School, as well as thyme, cabbage, cauliflower, aubergines, tomatoes, chillies and peppers in the vegetable garden.

The ground and soil that the pupils were working with were in good condition. Groups of children from Redhill School and Lulama Primary School dug the holes with admirable teamwork and managed to plant the trees that will provide them with shelter from the sun.

The pupils also prepared and presented iPad lessons on vegetables and the importance of planting indigenous trees. They collaborated with the pupils from Lulama Primary School to produce keynote presentations. Lulama Primary School pupils were also assisted on how to log onto the Edmodo site which will be used to work together with them to provide extra lessons throughout the year which will all be achieved electronically.

Dhevan Marimandi, the Grade 7 tutor and the Head of Natural Sciences at Redhill School said it was a very enlightening experience for all who attended. “Redhill is proud to have initiated such a beneficial and rewarding project,” he said.
