Hyde Park swimmer shines at Midmar

JOBURG - Hyde Park High School matric pupil Cesare Favini participated in this year's Midmar Mile finishing 27th out of 1 248 participants.

Favini is an accomplished swimmer and is ranked level three in breaststroke with Central Gauteng Aquatics (CGA). He was invited to the CGA’s training clinic for possible junior Olympic selection. Spokesperson for Hyde Park High School Avril Wright said, “He is a committed swimmer who represents the school at all the inter-school galas.”

Favini completed the Midmar Mile in the age category 13 to 30 in a time of 00:20:02, and was just three minutes behind the winner.

Wright added, “This is an outstanding achievement for a 17-year-old competing against swimmers of up to 30 years of age.”

Favini was recently awarded the Senior Victor Ludorum at the school’s inter-house gala and was commended by the headmaster, Manolis Vogiatzis on his swimming achievements.

Favini said his goal was to swim the English Channel next year.
