Saving the Field and Study Recreation Centre

PARKMORE - Field and Study Fanatics hosted a fundraising event on 29 January aimed towards the mobilisation of user fees for the Field and Study Recreation Centre.

The organisation is responsible for organising activities to raise funds for the centre. Barbara Gray, the operational manager of the centre, said the proceeds from the fundraising events go to the general maintenance and operation of the centre.

Guests invited to the meeting on 29 January were treated to wine and treats and reminded of all the activities that take place as well as the services available at the centre.

“We recreate, have fun and learn here,” explained Gray. The centre has an assortment of classes for the arts, crafts, hobbies and skills development, as well as health and fitness classes. A number of activities for children are also available at the centre.

Ellan Miller, the Field and Study Fanatics chairperson said, “We want to make people aware of the little things that are needed to help keep the place running. Little things like toilet paper and soap are a necessity. We need to make the community aware that we need funds to keep the centre running.”

Mousumi Roy is a volunteer from India who will join the Field and Study Fanatics team this year and assist them to achieve their fundraising goals. Back home in India, Roy has been a part of a lot of community work and has been instrumental in raising funds for her community’s recreational centre. “Recreation is big all over the world,” she said. “We have committees like the Field and Study Fanatics to help maintain the centres and we need to support that.”
